Stocking your classroom with school supplies?

School supplies may be tax deductible for you!

Claim that as a tax deduction!

On 2021 tax returns teachers can deduct up to $250 of non-reimbursed expenses. If you are also married to a teacher and are filing jointly that limit rises to $500.

Starting in 2022 teachers can now deduct up to $300 of non-reimbursed expenses. If you are also married to a teacher and are filing jointly that limit rises to $600.

Remember to keep your receipts to support your claim! If you aren't reimbursed by the school at least you can get a tax break.

Some examples of deductions may include:

  • Professional development course fees

  • Books and supplies

  • COVID-19 protective items to stop the spread of the disease in the classroom

  • Computer equipment, including related software and services

  • Other equipment and materials used in the classroom
